Chen, a 42-year-old tourist from Guangdong, said the storm felt routine. “To us Guangdong people, this typhoon is as ordinary as having a meal and feeling the wind.” For a region that experiences typhoons annually, the wind is familiar. The rain ahead, prolonged and heavy, is a less familiar threat.
