We started our adventure early to avoid the intense heat that quickly builds up in the Philippines after sunrise. By 7:00 AM, we were already on our motorbikes, leaving Tagkawayan behind and heading toward Legazpi City.

Since this was meant to be a relaxing travel day, we decided not to cover too much distance. The ride from Tagkawayan was surprisingly enjoyable, with smooth, well-maintained roads and very little traffic. Along the way, we passed through lush countryside, quiet villages, and beautiful rice fields that offered a glimpse into everyday life in rural Philippines.

One of the highlights of the ride was passing by Lake Bato, where we were rewarded with a stunning view of Mount Malinao rising majestically in the distance. It was the perfect place to slow down, take a few photos, and simply enjoy the peaceful scenery.

Afterward, we stopped for a short break at Embers Café & Restaurant. The café had a cozy atmosphere, friendly service, and, most importantly, excellent coffee—exactly what we needed before continuing our journey.

After about five hours on the road, we finally arrived in Legazpi City and checked into Maison de Gloria. One of the hotel’s biggest highlights is its beautiful view of Mayon Volcano. Although our room didn’t have a direct view, the volcano could be seen clearly from the hotel’s parking area, especially on a clear day.

The room itself was modern, clean, and comfortable. The only downside was the air conditioning. Like many accommodations in the Philippines, the hotel uses older-style split or window air-conditioning units, which tend to be quite noisy. While it wasn’t a major issue, it did affect the overall comfort of an otherwise pleasant stay.

Later that afternoon, we visited the famous Cagsawa Ruins, one of Legazpi City’s most iconic landmarks. The site preserves the remains of a Franciscan church that was buried during the catastrophic 1814 eruption of Mayon Volcano. Today, only the church’s bell tower remains standing, serving as a powerful reminder of the volcano’s destructive force and the resilience of the local community. With Mayon Volcano rising dramatically in the background, the ruins have become one of the most photographed locations in the Philippines.

Legazpi City offers plenty of exciting activities for visitors. One of the most popular is an ATV adventure around the foothills of Mayon Volcano. Riding across lava fields, rivers, and rugged volcanic terrain provides an unforgettable experience while offering spectacular views of the volcano from different angles.

For those interested in history and architecture, Daraga Church is another must-visit attraction. Built in 1773, this beautiful Baroque church sits on a hill overlooking Legazpi City. The following morning, we enjoyed a traditional Filipino breakfast consisting of garlic fried rice, longganisa (Filipino sausage), and a sunny-side-up egg—a simple but delicious way to start another day of exploring.
