Jalak Bali conservation in Bali

There are several conservation centers in Bali that focus on the protection and conservation of the critically endangered Jalak Bali bird. Some of these centers include:

#1 Friends of the National Parks Foundation (FNPF) Nusa Penida

Located in Nusa Penida – the FNPF bird conservation project that started in 2006 is now home to more than 100 Bali Starlings. Rehabilitation of Bali Starlings involves captive breeding programs in which the birds are raised in captivity and then released into the wild once they are mature enough to survive on their own. This process helps to increase the number of Bali Starlings in the wild and strengthen the genetic diversity of the population. FNPF releases Bali Starlings into the wild during ceremonies at the local temple and provides Nest Box in temple trees to ensure that the bird’s food is provided.

#2 Begawan Life

Founded by Bradley Gardner, an American expatriate who has been living in Bali since the 1970s. The foundation runs a breeding program for endangered birds, such as the Bali starling, the Javan hawk-eagle, and the Java eagle-owl. These birds are bred in captivity and then released into the wild in an effort to increase their populations. In addition to its breeding program, Begawan Life also operates a rehabilitation center for injured birds of prey. The center provides medical care and rehabilitation services for birds that have been injured or orphaned, with the goal of eventually releasing them back into the wild.

#3 The West Bali National Park (Taman Nasional Bali Barat)

The West Bali National Park is one of the key areas for the conservation of the Bali starling. The park is home to a breeding and reintroduction program for the Bali starling, which has been successful in increasing its population in the wild. We can observe the Bali starling in its natural habitat, as well as learn more about the conservation efforts to protect this beautiful bird.

#4 FNPF Besikalung Volunteer Center

The Besikalung Volunteer Center is located in the Besikalung Forest, a critical habitat for several endangered species, including the Bali Starling. The center provides volunteers with the opportunity to get involved in various conservation projects, such as tree planting, habitat restoration, and wildlife monitoring.

It is important to raise awareness about the importance of conservation and the critical status of Jalak bird species. Strict law enforcement measures should be taken seriously to prevent the poaching and illegal trade of the Bali Starling and other endangered species in Bali.
