About This Tour

To see, to learn, to practice - these are three steps prepare students towards the competitive world of work after finishing their school. This tour brings together the open air activities, learning and practising new skills, deepening the knowledge about important Indonesian industries, and elements of fun and adventure.

You will be visiting places famous for its leading farming, medicine and tea industries (Bumi Langit Institut, Merapi Farma Herbal factory, Kemuning Tea Plantation) and learning about the local historical and cultural heritage (Wayang Orang Sriwedari, Sangiran Archeological Museum). These educational field trips will be balanced with a time for relaxing and fun (Volcano Lava Tour, souvenir shopping, tasting local culinary specialities).

Some of the visited places may become the future employers for students who would be taking this tour. Let them know better each other.

Day 1Visiting Tea Plantation – Ancient 'Solo Man' Museum – Cultural Evening With Javanese Drama ShowB, L, D

Everyone enjoys a big jar of an ice tea on a very hot day. But do we really know the long and complex process that makes this tea leaf finally landing in our cup? We will start this tour with a visit to Kemuning Tea Plantation in Tawangmangu, near Surakarta. The students will learn how the leaves are harvested, and during the factory tour they will see the process of transforming the leaves into a tea. There will be opportunity to taste the final product, and each student will receive a gift of 1 pack of dried tea to take home.

Around 11am we will start the culinary experience part of the tour, opening it with a traditional dish Timlo - the speciality of Solo region. Chopped chicken meat, cooked egg and chicken liver made into delicious clear soup, served with white rice.

After lunch we will introduce you to "Solo Man", or Homo Erectus Soloensis, by visiting the Sangiran Museum with the largest collection of Homo Erectus fossils in the world (bones of 70 individuals). Sangiran is one of the most important archaeological excavation sites in Indonesia.

The dinner will be continuation of our culinary experience subtour - this time you will try Nasi Lewet. This yummy Solo dish is a rice cooked in coconut milk, chicken broth and spices.

And finally, this evening special - Sriwedari Classical Javanese drama troupe, also known as Wayang Orang Sriwedari. Every night, different story. For 2 hours we will be immersed into Javanese dance and drama based on Hindu mythology: Mahabharata and Ramayana.

Day 2Farming and Gardening Field Trip – Souvenir Shopping on Malioboro – Local Culinary DiscoveryB, L, D

After a breakfast at the hotel, you will be heading to Bumi Langit Institute in Imogiri, near Yogyakarta. Lovely scenery along the way. There will be a rich Premaculture program there - students will learn about planting techniques, plant nursery, beds making and irrigation and drainage systems. Huge amount of useful, practical knowledge.

A delicious lunch at the institute - we will taste Mie Lethek - a special local noodle from Bantul made from casava flour.

Time for a break and some souvenir hunting - we will visit the famous Jl Malioboro, a busy street in the heart of Yogyakarta. Plenty of small shops selling hundreds of local products, plus artists, musicians and street performers - a place that every tourist must visit.

Continuing with our culinary experience subtour we will visit a local restaurant to try Gudeg, a traditional dish from Jogja. Gudeg is made from young unripe jack fruit stewed for several hours with palm sugar and coconut milk. Teak leaves are added to the dish to give it a reddish brown color.

After the dinner we will check into hotel.

Day 3Volcano Lava Tour – Jamu Production at Merapi Farma Herbal – DepartureB, L

Breakfast at the hotel. Today we will start the day with an adventurous trip to Merapi volcano. The group will enjoy an adrenaline packed ride in open Jeeps through lava covered slopes of one of the most famous Indonesian volcanoes. You will learn about active volcano dangers by visiting remaining of the village destroyed be the pyroclastic flow (catastrophic Merapi eruption in 2010), the Museum Sisa Hartaku that displays the artifacts and private belongings of Merapi’s victims, and the Kaliadem bunker with a tragic story of eruption in 2006.

The whole area around volcano and its valley is dotted with breathtaking views, and superb Instagrammable locations. Having lunch at Jejamuran restaurant we will discover a ‘jamur cuisine’ - meals where the main ingredients are different types of mushrooms.

The last stop on our tour will be Merapi Farma Herbal, a place where legendary Jamu is made. Jamu is not just a traditional herbal medicine - it has already became a cultural phenomenon among Indonesian people. The guide will show you around the farm, so you can see various types of medicinal plants. Then we will head to the main building to learn about the process of making Jamu.

Tour done. We will transport your group to the place of departure. We are sure that the memories (and pictures) from this original tour will stay with you for a long time!
